Piers Nivans is the name of a BSAA agent operating in multiple areas around the globe. His main specialty is sniping, a field in which he distinguishes himself, and his typical non-combat role is akin to that of an Assistant Team Leader, charged with training new individuals and additions to the team.Piers’ entrance into the military was a foregone conclusion, having been raised into a multi-generation military family. However, Piers’ idealistic nature clashed heavily with the reality he saw of the field once he entered it, experiencing heavy disillusionment. He would have a chance to find real fulfilment in his career of choice once he was scouted by BSAA agent and co-founder Chris Redfield.Serving as part of Redfield’s unit renewed Piers’ sense of purpose and optimism and allowed him to fight for the greater cause he yearned for, now charged with protecting the world from bioterror.Piers has achieved notable involvement in efforts against bioterror outbreaks, such as the Philosophy University incident in Australia in 2010 and the Marhawa School incident in Kudankhan in 2012, the latter of which brought him into contact with fellow soldier Merah Biji before her untimely death. The ultimate architect of the Marhawa incident would resurface in Edonia in December of that year, going by the name of Ada Wong. Ada’s machinations took advantage of civil unrest in the country to cause a viral outbreak, and she was responsible for the death and mutations of the majority of Alpha Team. This incident would cause grievous damage to the morales of both Piers and his respected captain, Chris Redfield, the latter of whom fell deep into a depressive fugue state, undergoing amnesia to cope with the survivor’s guilt.Piers would be charged, six months later, with bringing Redfield back into the fray and restoring him to combat operations. This effort was ultimately successful, though the return of Redfield’s memory would come with a vicious desire for vengeance that blinded him and caused mistakes. He and Piers would again be the only remnants of Alpha Team after a violent B.O.W. slew several members during the Lanshiang bioterror incident in China, with the last ultimately being mutated by a returned Ada Wong.Piers and Chris would chase Ada throughout the streets of China as the latter left rampant chaos in her wake, ultimately emerging victorious and securing a sample of Wong’s latest and most dangerous work: the Enhanced C-Virus, a radically more dangerous version of an already violent and unstable virus made through the manipulation of select antibodies. However, they were not able to stop Wong’s plans for further destruction, which dragged thousands of innocents into the fray when she launched a missile loaded with C-Virus at Tachi, infecting the entire city. This, itself, was merely a ploy to distract emergency forces from intervening with her ultimate plan: the use of an immense B.O.W. to infect the entire world.Special operative Leon S. Kennedy, also caught up in the mix, would charge Chris and Piers with the rescue of captives Sherry Birkin and Jake Muller from an underwater base where this B.O.W. was being kept. After fighting through waves of Wong’s security forces, they met up with the escaped captives in the central chamber, the four of them witnessing the premature birth of HAOS, Wong’s most ambitious and evolved project. The monstrosity, despite being nascent, emerged at an unfathomable size and mobility, and destroyed much of the facility while chasing down Chris and Piers.Ultimately, HAOS succeeded in mortally wounding Piers, and moved in to kill Chris. Piers would respond by sacrificing his humanity, injecting himself with the vial of Enhanced C-Virus in order to undergo rapid mutation and save Chris’ life. Using his newfound mutation and the powers it granted him, Piers would further defend Chris while grievously wounding and eventually defeating the monster.The two would struggle to make it to the escape pod launch bay, where Piers, overcome with the virus, made the choice to ensure Chris’ survival by forcing him into an escape pod–alone, at the cost of his own life. Piers’ legacy would be the ultimate defeat of HAOS, which had regenerated and arrived for a renewed assault on Chris’ escape pod. Piers’ final attack finally annihilated the creature in full, saving both Chris and the entire world.
